The creators of SS Rajamouli’s historical drama RRR, starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, were planning to premiere it in theatres on January 7, but the Omicron threat prompted them to postpone their plans. Since then, there has been a lot of discussion about the new release date for this big-budget film. And now, Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that the filmmakers have finally decided on a release date, with RRR planned to hit theatres on April 29, 2022, over the Eid weekend.
According to our sources, the film team considered several dates – February 25, March 25, and Eid – before settling on the lucrative celebratory date of Eid for their major. Surprisingly, the release date matches that of Rajamouli’s most recent hit, Bahubali 2: The Conclusion, which debuted to rave reviews on April 28, 2017. Aside from the Eid vacation, the RRR staff will benefit from the Labour Day and Maharashtra Day holidays on May 1, despite the fact that it occurs on a Sunday. According to our sources, an official announcement will be made soon.
Interestingly, the same date has been set despite the fact that it has been blocked by two Bollywood blockbusters: Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34, which stars the actor alongside Amitabh Bachchan, and Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heropanti 2, which stars Tiger Shroff. When this news breaks, we’re curious to see how the stakeholders of these two Bollywood heavyweights react, as this is unquestionably an out-of-the-box competition.
RRR is billed as India’s most expensive film, with a budget of over Rs 450 crore. Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt both make cameo appearances. It reunites two of Telugu cinema’s biggest names – Jr. NTR and Ram Charan – and is expected to smash new records at the box office. It’s a narrative set in the pre-independence era written by KV Vijayendra Prasad.
