RRR is a Telugu-language period action drama film directed by S. S. Rajamouli and produced by DVV Entertainments’ D. V. V. Danayya. N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, and Olivia Morris appear in the film, with Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, and Alison Doody providing support. It is a fictional storey of Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), two Indian rebels who battled against the British Raj and the Nizam of Hyderabad, respectively.
Rajamouli wrote the screenplay based on a narrative by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad. Rajamouli came across accounts of situations that occurred in the lives of Rama Raju and Bheem and noticed a connection between them. Rajamouli was inspired to make the film by the idea that they may have been pals during their formative years. The storey is set in 1920 and explores an undocumented moment in their life when both revolutionaries chose to disappear before starting the struggle for their country.
The film was formally announced in March 2018, with the premiere taking place in November 2018, and principal photography beginning in November 2018. The film was shot primarily in India, with a few parts in Ukraine and Bulgaria thrown in for good measure. M. M. Keeravani composed the music and background score for the film, which was shot by K. K. Senthil Kumar and edited by A. Sreekar Prasad. The production designer for the film is Sabu Cyril, while the visual effects were overseen by V. Srinivas Mohan.
RRR, which was made on a budget of 400 crore (US$53 million), was set to hit theatres on July 30, 2020, but was postponed due to production problems, and was then followed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is now set to be released in theatres on January 7, 2022.
