The Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer, which also features Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, opened theatres yesterday. On Day 1, the film grossed over 26 crores.
ETimes spoke with the professionals just a few minutes ago to receive a firsthand account of the film’s progress on Day 2.
“Normally the day following the Lakshmi puja, every film reports a small decline,” trade expert Taran Adarsh told ETimes. If a dip occurs in this case, it will be minor because the film is holding up well. It’s heartening to see the public turn out in such large numbers after such a long period of silence. And, believe it or not, if every state in India had opened its cinema halls to 100% full, the collections would have been far higher.” “Mere aaj bhi saare shows full hain,” Gaiety Galaxy Executive Director Manoj Desai remarked, adding that he cannot speak for every cinema in the country. There are no tickets available. Everything was pre-sold. Akshaye Rathi, another exhibitor, eschewed a sentiment similar to Adarsh’s. “I’m expecting more than Rs 20 crore; perhaps it’ll be around Rs 26 crore again,” says the analyst.
Suniel Wadhwa, Reliance Entertainment’s Distribution Consultant, believes the film’s Day 2 and Day 3 box office will be significantly higher than Day 1. “On Sunday, it should bring in around Rs 32-35 crore.”
